FAQ´S

How can I help?

Currently our social kitchen is fortunate to have a dedicated and robust team of volunteers who ensure the smooth operation of our services. Thanks to their commitment, we're able to fulfill our mission effectively. By volunteering in the Kitchen, young unemployed people can gain work experience that will help them in their future paths. We also provide opportunities for elderly members of the community to volunteer as a way of combating loneliness and social isolation.

While we deeply appreciate the eagerness of individuals to contribute their time and energy to our project, our current volunteer base adequately meets our needs. If you're looking to support our cause, the most impactful way would be through donations, which enable us to sustain and expand our initiatives. If you want to meet our volunteers, contact us via the contact form to ask which Sundays we organize open lunches for the community. Check out our social media channels for the days when we have a Sunday lunch for external guests. If you are in Mussomeli, we also have a sign in the window advertising when the lunches are on. Some of our guests have also offered to bake and prepare food in their home that we include in our Sunday food parcel delivery. If you are in Mussomeli and you would like to participate, call into the kitchen and speak to our volunteers. We also arrange events in the kitchen and you are all very welcome as well. Please sign up to our newsletter to keep informed about upcoming events. We would also love to hear from you if you have experience in fundraising or apply for grants and funds.

How do we rescue food?

At our Kitchen, we're proud advocates of sustainability, and our food rescue program is a testament to our commitment to both nourishing our community and minimizing food waste. Thanks to our partnership with Banco Alimentare, every week we receive generous donations from local supermarkets, including fresh produce and items nearing their expiry dates. These contributions not only enable us to provide nutritious meals to those in need but also play a crucial role in our fight against food waste. By rescuing surplus food that would otherwise go unused, we can benefit both people and the planet. We deliver fresh food parcels on Thursday and Sunday. We also use the surplus produce to prepare a nourishing meal on Sunday.

How do we use donated funds?

We deeply value every donation and it's important to us that you know exactly how your contributions are making a difference. Transparency is key in our operations, and we're committed to providing full visibility into the allocation of funds. Each month, we incur various expenses essential to sustaining our mission, including rent, utilities, and supplies. By covering these basic costs, we can ensure the smooth functioning of our Kitchen. Your donations directly support these efforts, enabling us to make a tangible impact on the lives of individuals and families in our community.
